WWII Plaza Memorial

After World War II, the community and the War Mothers requested a new veteran's section from the Trustees of Woodside. The Trustees dedicated seven (7) acres to the veterans associations of Middletown (Section 3). The War Mothers asked the community to help raise money to finance the 167 white marble crosses, the flag pole, the WWII Memorial Plaza and the Memorial Chapel. The work began immediately after WWII (1945). The Memorial Chapel was dedicated in 1950. The 167 white Marble crosses, Memorial Plaza and the Flag Pole were completed also.

The 167white marble crosses are memorials for the individuals killed during the conflict (1941-1945). Most are buried elsewhere, but some are buried at their cross location.

The WWII Memorial Plaza is used for both Memorial Day services and sometimes the Veterans Day services.

The Memorial Chapel can be used by any family for an hour visitation or final committal. The pews will hold 100 people. The chapel has a restroom, and is heated and air conditioned.

The flag pole is approximately 60-70 feet tall, and flies a 8' x 12' American flag.
