Obituary

Joan E. Hudson (nee Hasselbach), 73, of Trenton, Ohio passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 12, 2023.
She was born on November 14, 1949 to the late George and the late Rita Hasselbach. She is the loving wife of 50 years to Gary Hudson; mother to the late Robert Hill Jr., Chris Hudson, and Julia Johnson; devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren Brittiany (Michael) Martin, Shelby (Robert) Mann, Tyler (Danielle) Hill, Kylie Hill, Alexis Johnson, and Brayden Johnson; Great Grandmother to Braylee Warman, Beverlee Warman, Izabella Warman, Sophia Mann, Emma Martin, Maverick Hill, Meadow Martin and Wren Martin; sister to Judy Douglass and the late Janet Bush.

Gary and Joan both graduated from Trenton High School where they met. They married in March of 1973 and have been inseparable ever since. They had a beautiful life together and she was his sweetheart as he would say. Trenton has always been their home. She would often joke that she’s lived on the same street her entire life but it was true. Her father built the first house on the street and after her and Gary married they bought a house just down the road.

After high school Gary worked and eventually retired from AK Steel and Joan decided to make a career in tax preparation. She went on to proudly own Hudson Tax Service in Trenton for more than 30 years. She was forced to retire in 2017 after a brain injury left her unable to work. Hudson Tax Service has remained family owned and operated even after her retirement.

Joan was a selfless woman. She and Gary successfully raised four of their grandchildren starting at ages 15, 12, 9 and 8. It wasn’t always an easy task but she made it look seamless. She devoted her life to them without hesitation. While their friends were retired and vacationing, Joan was promptly checking grades and handing out lunch money for the next 10 years until the youngest graduated. This was not only her greatest adventure but also one of her greatest accomplishments. We swear she’s actually the best grandma that has ever lived.

She had lifelong friends which whom she considered family. ”I hope you find your Joanie” her friends would say- meaning they hope you find the one person you can always count on because they found that in her. Everyone should have a Joan.

Her family and friends will miss her beyond belief and her memory will forever live in our broken hearts.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home, 517 South Sutphin St., Middletown, OH 45044. Funeral Service will be at 1pm, Friday, November 17, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.
